Season matters more here than almost anywhere. A Saturday in March at an oceanfront venue can cost dramatically more than the same venue on a Friday in September. If your dates are flexible, ask venues for their shoulder-season and off-peak rates before falling in love with a date.
Guest count is the master lever. Nearly every cost — catering, rentals, flowers, cake, favors — scales with headcount. Cutting the guest list by 20% saves far more than downgrading the centerpieces. The most effective budget tool is a short guest list.
Ask what's included before comparing prices. A venue quote that includes tables, chairs, linens, parking, and cleanup can be cheaper than a "bargain" venue where you rent everything separately. Compare total costs, not headline numbers.
