Questions to Ask a Wedding Venue Before You Book

Weddings have their own fine print — curfews, vendor mandates, rain plans, getting-ready suites. Ask these before you sign, and the day runs the way you pictured it.

Availability & exclusivity

  1. Is our date actually available — ceremony and reception? Some venues book multiple events per day. Confirm you have the whole property, or know exactly what you're sharing and with whom.
  2. How many weddings do you host per day / per weekend?Back-to-back events mean tight flip windows and shared staff attention. One event per day is worth asking about.
  3. What time can we access the space, and when must we be out?Get the full window: vendor load-in, getting-ready time, ceremony, reception, teardown. Overtime rates too.

Ceremony specifics

  1. Where exactly does the ceremony happen — and what's the rain plan?See both spaces in person. "We move it inside" means nothing until you've seen the inside option set for a ceremony.
  2. When is the weather call made, and who makes it?Agree on the decision deadline in advance — the morning of is too late to be debating it.
  3. Is there a getting-ready suite — and is it actually nice? You'll spend hours there, and your photographer will shoot in it. Cramped, fluorescent, windowless rooms show up in photos.
  4. Can we do a rehearsal here, and when? Some venues include it; others charge or can't fit it in. Know before the week of the wedding.

Vendors & catering

  1. Must we use your caterer, or can we bring our own? This single answer reshapes the whole budget. If outside vendors are allowed, ask about kitchen access and any outside-catering fees.
  2. Do you have a required or preferred vendor list?"Preferred" can mean suggested or mandatory — ask which, and what it costs to go off-list.
  3. What's the alcohol policy?Bring your own or in-house bar only? Corkage fees? Who holds the liquor liability, and is a licensed bartender required?
  4. Is there a real working kitchen for our vendors?A caterer or private chef needs prep space, power, water, and refrigeration. Tour it, don't just ask about it.

The party itself

  1. What are the music and noise cutoffs?Amplified sound curfews are the #1 wedding-day surprise on the Treasure Coast. Get the exact time and the decibel rules in writing.
  2. What decor is restricted?Candles and open flame, sparklers, confetti, cold sparks, hanging installations — ask about all of them specifically.
  3. Can we have a sparkler or special send-off?If you're picturing that exit photo, confirm it's allowed — many venues ban them outright.
  4. How does the reception flow work here?Cocktail hour location, dinner service style, dance floor placement — walk the flow with the coordinator before you commit.

Money & fine print

  1. What exactly is included in the rental fee?Tables, chairs, linens, dance floor, parking, security, cleanup crew — "included" varies wildly. Get the inventory in writing.
  2. What are the payment milestones and cancellation terms?Deposit, interim payments, final balance — and exactly what you forfeit if plans change at 6 months, 3 months, 30 days.
  3. Do you require wedding insurance? Many venues require a liability policy naming them as additional insured. It's inexpensive, but it takes a few weeks to arrange.
  4. Who is our day-of contact, and what's their cell number? One named human — not "the events team." When the florist can't find the service entrance, this person saves the day.

The golden rule: tour on a day that resembles your wedding. A quiet Tuesday morning tells you nothing about Saturday-night noise, lighting, or parking. If possible, visit during an actual event — or at least at the same time of day your wedding will happen.
